I had a fabulous time at the 43rd annual VATE conference last weekend. I was able to catch up with a number of former colleagues and former students, and I even saw my dissertation advisor! I attended a number of great presentations, including a talk on the Shenandoah Valley Writers Academy given by two of my fellow BC colleagues.
My presentation entitled, Who’s the Fairest of Them All? Using Fairy Tales and Folktales to Celebrate Diversity, was very well attended and well received. I appreciate all the great feedback and want to thank everyone that came (especially those that had to stand in the back and/or sit on the floor!).
Finally, I was elected Secretary of the VCEE (Virginia Conference on English Education). I’m looking forward to this new position. It will be a great opportunity to stay connected to English educators across the state!
